Provenance data remain inconclusive. While there is no indication that the painting changed hands or was in Continental Europe during 1933-1945, the indication that it was in Zurich after 1945 warrants further research. Furthermore, it remains unknown when, where or from whom Mr. Mendel acquired the painting.
